In May 2019, several professional chamber ensembles gathered together to perform a benefit concert. It sparked a desire to create an organization that would support professional chamber musicians in their projects, so they could be compensated, and offset the cost of their programming, concerts and projects. The desire to give back to the community and to support chamber music education would definitly be part of the organization.
We noted that young students had access to large ensemble experience easily, but could access quality-coached chamber music experiences only during summer camps. We wanted to provide capable students with this experience during the school year as well. The model we wanted to create would not just coach the students in producing performances, but would train them to learn rehearsal/performance techniques, such as communication, planning, running their own rehearsals, and more. Our brainstorming minds thought it would be even better if the students had direct access to performing and rehearsing with professional musicians.
There is a symbiosis that occurs with Collaborative Musicians’ Project, Inc. The community provides funding. The funding provides much needed income, opportunity and connections for the professional musicians. The professional musicians teach and guide the student musicians. The student and professional musicians bring beautiful music to the community. The quality of music that comes from invested teaching, learning and giving back has a backbone of humanity.
