Interlude - Audition Requirements

String Instruments

violin, viola, cello, bass

Intermediate

  • Major scale - 2 octave scale with  détaché stroke - 16th notes = 60bpm minimum
  • Harmonic/Melodic minor scale - 2 octave scale slurred every 8 notes = 72bpm minimum.
  • Excerpt of a solo piece (or two contrasting pieces/etudes) demonstrating both lyrical and technical passages, no longer than 5 minutes

Advanced

  • Major scale - 3 octave scale with  détaché stroke - 16th notes = 60bpm minimum
  • Harmonic/Melodic minor scale - 3 octave scale slurred every 8 notes = 72bpm minimum.
  • Excerpt of a solo piece (or two contrasting pieces/etudes) demonstrating both lyrical and technical passages, no longer than 5 minutes


Woodwinds

flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon

Intermediate

  • Chromatic scale - 2 octave slurred, at 16th notes = 72bpm minimum (low range - quarter = 50bpm

  • Arpeggio - hands together, at least two octaves up and down in parallel motion - 8th notes = 72 minimum.
  • Excerpt of a solo piece (or two contrasting pieces/etudes) demonstrating both lyrical and technical passages, no longer than 5 minutes 


Percussion

Intermediate/Advanced

  • Snare drum roll for 10-15 seconds
  • 2 octave scale on any mallet instrument
  • Excerpt of a solo piece (or two contrasting pieces/etudes) on snare, timpani or other multi-percussion set, no longer than 3 minutes
